DIY – sew a sun hat with a free pattern
Hannah Dahle1 comment
Hellooooo,
I'm Hannah and I'm glad you're here!
Fisherman's hat, summer hat, sun hat, bucket hat... A hat with countless names. But whatever you call it, in this crisp video tutorial I'll show you how you can sew such a chic sun hat.
Choice of fabric for winter & summer
Whether winter or summer, you can wear this classic all year round. It's all about choosing the right fabric. In summer I recommend a thin fabric that doesn't stretch. This can be, for example, linen, cotton or another blended fabric. In winter, however, you can line it with a fluffy fur material or thick corduroy to provide a little more warmth on your head.
The 2 in 1 reversible hat
The great thing about this model is that you have two hats in one. I'll show you how to sew this chic hat so that you can turn it around at the end and practically have two hats to combine.
My free sewing pattern
I have created a pattern for you that you can use here you can download and print for free.
I'll show you in this sewing guide
- Which materials are suitable for your bucket hat.
- What materials you need.
- How to use the pattern.
- In which order you sew the pattern pieces.
- How to close the hat after turning it over
What you need for the tutorial
- One or two non-stretchy fabrics, for example linen, cotton, corduroy or even fur.
- A pair of fabric scissors
- A tape measure
- Pins
- A sewing machine
Make yourself comfortable
You will read this section in every one of my posts because it is particularly close to my heart. In addition to the sewing itself, my focus when producing the videos is primarily on us having a good time together. I want to encourage you to make yourself really comfortable and tackle the project in Muse. Maybe you want to make some tea, prepare a snack, light candles… Whatever it is that makes you feel safe and calm, incorporate it into your sewing routine.
