Why is this substance called “nettle”?
In the past, nettle fabric was made from nettle yarn because cotton was not yet known at that time. When the cheaper cotton yarn was later discovered in Europe, the nettle was made from cotton. What has remained is the plain weave typical of nettle.
Raw nettle is often used to make prototypes for expensive clothing, as this material can be purchased very cheaply. But cotton nettle is also used for decoration, hanging out or crafts.
